Beautiful Venetian Masks
Monday, August 9, 2010
Recently, I discovered a site which sells some very beautiful and detailed Venetian masks. Over the weekend, I spent a long time browsing the beautiful products and picturing where I could use them in my home. In fact, when I was younger and had first met Hubs, I had several similar masks which Hubs really liked. He and I carefully arranged them on our bedroom wall, and it looked so cool!
I don't think the masks I had were real Venetian masks like the ones on this website though. The ones I had weren't nearly as detailed.
The website tells a bit of history on Venetian masks. They are a tradition of Venice, Italy, and they are most popular during the Carnival of Venice.
I was unaware that there are several different kinds of Venetian masks. For example, the Bauta mask covers the entire face, and the Columbine is a half mask.

I think one of the full face masks with the black/aqua tiger feathers is absolutely gorgeous! I also really like the Jolly Music masks.
I'm thinking some of these masks would look beautiful hanging in my new bedroom when it is finished. I'll have to add them to my wishlist.

wow! awesome photography! good work :)
Gina wants the blue one.
If you want truley beautiful masks the Authentic Venetian masks are certainly the best. Did you know the bauta mask was worn by lovers so they could meet in the daytime without fear of being recognised. The beaked front allowed the wearer to still eat and drink as well as change the timbre of their voice.
Beautiful masks! I have to wonder how long does/did it take to make one of them. They definitely took pride in their work.
I've only ever been to one masquerade ball in my life and it was about 20 years ago. I was 15 and part of the catering team, so I was really on the outside of things but near the end we joined in the dancing. I learnt the electric slide that night, lol.
This blue feather mask is exceptionally beautiful.
