Camera-Critters #27

Last weekend, we went to hang out with some friends where they were camping at a nearby creek.

We ate yummy food and talked.
I, of course, was also busy taking photos.

Not only did I make friends with Roscoe,
I also had the pleasure of meeting another new buddy!
We were just sitting by the camper talking and listening to music.
I was busy yacking about dogs or photography,
and Hubs was telling his cousin about how my aunt got him
one of those wind up radios to use in case there was no electric (This radio is one of Hubs favorite possessions - he uses it even when there IS electric available, because he thinks it's so neat).
As we were talking, I looked down at my feet and got very excited.
No, I wasn't excited about my feet - c'mon people, work with me here!

I was excited about this...

It's a Walking Stick!
I hadn't seen one of these since I was a little girl!
This one, however, is different than the ones I saw in Ohio,
but I still thought he was awesome!

So, I picked him up to put him on the cooler so I could take photos of him.
He proceeded to climb up my arm and sit comfortably on my shoulder,
like he was my new best friend.
Hub's cousin's girlfriend disagreed with me about how awesome this critter was.
She told me to just keep it away from her. hehehe
So, I removed WS from my shoulder and put him on the cooler again.
I sat down in the lawn chair next to the cooler, and
WS stretched as far as he could,
got ahold of my jeans,
and proceeded to climb back up to my shoulder again.
Everyone was cracking up laughing.

Oh yeah, I got these photos that same day,
shortly before we left to go to the campsite.

Lunch, anyone???

Misty: That is a very nice CC series. I can't believe you got the Praying Mantis with the Bumblebee meal. Amazing we should get the same capture this year (kindred souls). I had an experience with walking sticks while sitting quietly turkey hunting. I must have sat on their nest and they covered me. At least 30 of them on my back, really creepy.

Excellent post, Misty. I like the way you tell the story and how the photographs illustrate it.

Oh my goodness these are AWESOME photos! WS certainly took a shine to you didn't he? Maybe he is none too fond of cooler boxes... (great place to put him for contrast!)

I want to see a picture of the WS on your shoulder. Anyhow great pics here.

Awesome pictures! Walking sticks must have a thing for coolers, one kept hanging out on ours last time we went camping. The praying mantis pictures are amazing! The look like little aliens.

The Walking Stick really does look like a stick! Don't get me started on the wind up radio... my hubby has a wind-up flashlight that he insisted on demonstrating for me over and over again. Ugh, it must be a guy thing! Lol! Great post!

Beautiful creek. It must have been so relaxing listening to the water.

I never heard of a walking stick, but he is cute. Obviously he thought you were something special.

I've never seen one of those ever. Very cool!

Your new little friend is cute, but I'd like you to keep him away from me, too. Pictures of bugs are OK, but the actual bugs, not so much.

I think the last one of these I saw was with my Grandparents too many years ago.

Although your pictures are of excellent quality, I still prefer looking at pets with fur, lol !

Those are awesome scenery photos from your nearby creek! And very cool about the walking stick! I haven't seen one of those in a long time either. They're so bizarre but cool.

And those last two shots were confusing...I think they're praying mantises? Very cool!
