House Plan Decisions

You have all read my posts about the numerous home improvements we have had to complete since we moved to this state and into this house. I have also told you about the addition we are putting on the house. A house addition may sound like a 'luxury' or something which is 'unnecessary'. However, this house is very small, and we have really crammed everything we own into a very small house. Therefore, the addition is more of a home improvement, in my opinion.

My husband has really done a great job on the addition so far. Since it is still in the framing and construction stages, he has only needed my help when it comes to decisions about floor plans or things such as light switch and electrical outlet placement. It is going to be very nice when it is done, and I can't wait to actually be able to decorate and arrange my house.

However, I must make a confession. At first, my husband considered tearing this house down and building a new house in an area back by our pond, which would also be back away from the road. When he was considering this, I would buy him magazines full of home plans and floor designs. He would show me several houses and ask my opinion. Eventually, we both determined that we really loved this one design, which he had saved in a folder he created of house plans from years ago. It would have been built into the hill by our pond, and the house would have been a partial-underground home, with the backside built into the hill, and the front of the home would have had giant windows looking out over the pond. *sigh*

After considering finances and other factors, though, we decided on just adding on to the existing house. Now that we have run out of finances, I'm hoping there will actually BE a day when I can tell you that I'm busy decorating, because it is finished.

Why do home improvements, additions, just homes in general, have to be so expensive? There is so much we want to do to ours, yet, like you, no funds. Sigh.
